Hurricane Laura: After the Storm, the Cavalry Arrives

Tracie Hayes

Summary

Tracie Hayes, a seasoned equipment rental professional on the Gulf Coast, faced immense challenges during Hurricane Laura in 2020, including losing her home and significant damage to her onsite operations. Despite the devastation, she credits United Rentals' Emergency Response Team (ERT) for their swift support, helping manage recovery efforts and ensuring business continuity. Hayes reflects on the company's strong culture of teamwork and resilience, expressing gratitude for their resources and readiness during crises.

Challenge

Hurricane Laura had a devastating impact on Tracie Hayes' personal life and professional operations. The storm caused her to lose her home, destroyed one of her onsite offices, and disrupted communication and recovery efforts at the refineries she manages. Additionally, the challenges were compounded by COVID-19 restrictions, which slowed down recovery processes.

Impact

Both onsite facilities were left without communications, requiring emergency response measures to reroute customer calls and manage equipment dispatch from a nearby branch.
