Vehicle Rental makes United Rentals’ a one stop shop for customer hire needs
Sydney, NSW - May 27, 2026
United Rentals, the world’s largest rental company, continues to expand its range of rental products and services with the launch of a Vehicle Rental Program across Australia.
The nationwide fleet of high-quality, ‘work ready’ vehicles enable customers to manage their fleet efficiently with the right mix of vehicles, control of maintenance schedules, and keeping operating costs in check.
“Vehicle rental is a natural complement to United Rental’s broader equipment rental offering,” said Ashley Halsall, Head of Product ANZ (Vehicles).
“We designed the program with commercial customers in mind to help them maximise their operations and take the hassle out of fleet management.”
Expanding into Vehicle Rentals is key to United Rentals’ drive to provide a one stop shop for customers’ rental requirements, enabling them to also access general rental equipment, mobile storage and worksite solutions, and trench, shoring and pump products.
“Customers want to be able to consolidate their rental requirements by partnering with a single trusted supplier. United Rentals’ is focussed on delivering a complete solution that both simplifies and enhances the customer experience by removing the complexity of admin and not juggling multiple vendors.”
Rental vehicles with benefits
The make-up of the Vehicle Rental Program and the selection of vehicles was customer led with a focus on providing solutions that met local market demand.
“We looked closely at the broad range of industries we support, especially the civil, infrastructure, utilities, construction and government sectors, with the aim of identifying vehicle types required most on worksites,” said Mr Halsall.
Vehicles available include a 4X4 dual cab with alloy tray and a 4X4 dual cab styleside tub across a range of leading vehicle brands. All rentals include registration, maintenance and roadside assistance.
“The 4x4 dual cab is practical, versatile and widely accepted across our customer base and the general market. We also see it as a real opportunity to support commercial growth across the market.”
Key benefits of the rental vehicle fleet include:
- Greater Visibility and Control: Customers can track and manage their vehicles via United Rentals’ worksite and fleet management platform Total Control. With built in telematics this provides customers with safety, operational visibility and cost management guidance.
- Work-Ready Vehicles: Civil specification-built vehicles have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and in-built integrated telematics making them compliant, safe and ready to go immediately.
- Simple Pricing: A streamlined rental model with registration, servicing, maintenance and roadside assistance is included to eliminate any hidden extra costs.
Proven US success extends to Australia
Vehicle Rental is a proven success model in United Rentals’ USA business, where it has delivered significant customer value and strong growth. “Bringing Vehicle Rental to our local market is a natural extension of that success, and aligns well with our broader overall growth strategy,” said Mr Halsall.
The move into rental vehicles comes as United Rentals opens a new branch in Brisbane and expands in both Perth and Adelaide.
Strong rental vehicle demand
There has been strong demand for rental vehicles from business customers of all sizes that operate across multiple worksites and regions.
The key for these customers was flexibility, said Mr Halsall.
“For example, civil construction contractors often rent vehicles to support project-based work where fleet demand can change quickly.
“We’re also seeing interest from utilities and infrastructure maintenance providers who need work-ready vehicles for field teams but want the flexibility to scale up or down depending on workloads.”
Mr Halsall said this flexibility enables businesses to manage their fleet without the capital commitment and complexity of ownership.
“With the national reach of our rental vehicle offering, customers get work-ready and site compliant vehicles to meet their specific business needs.”
Trusted partner, complete service
Mr Halsall said United Rentals was committed to providing great service, quality equipment, and innovative solutions for customers across Australia.
“As the world’s largest equipment rental company, United Rentals combines global reach with local knowledge, expertise and an extensive range of products to meet customers’ specific needs.
“We build local partnerships and take the time to understand what customers really want, which means we can tailor solutions to get the job done effectively, on time and on budget.”
Last year United Rental’s acquired Alfasi Hire which expanded its general rental business giving customers access to an extensive range of Elevated Work Platforms (EWP), telehandlers, and forklifts. Acquiring Alfasi Hire follows the acquisition of Royal Wolf in 2021 and Shore Hire, Orange Hire and Civil Construction Hire in 2024.
